virva

Virva Svala is a Finland-based artist working with oil, acrylic, and watercolor paints. Her works move between semi-abstract landscapes, light, and delicate interpretations of nature.

Svala’s painting process is calm and layered. Color, light, and soft brushstrokes create dreamlike worlds where reality and imagination intertwine. Nighttime city lights and moods, as well as flowers, birds, and animals, often serve as sources of inspiration. She draws her subjects from everyday landscapes and memories – moments where time slows down and the mind finds peace.

Svala holds a Master of Arts degree from the University of Art and Design Helsinki (2009) and has also studied at the Open Art School (2013–2016). She has worked as a visual arts teacher in primary and secondary schools. She has held several solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions. Currently, she paints at Taidetila Viiiiisi in Kallio, Helsinki.
